The Roton band program consists of students in grades 6-8. Students have the opportunity to begin a Band Instrument in grade 6 and progress through grade 8. Band study begins with large group "Band", where all students are grouped by grade and meet 3 times per 6-day cycle. Each Band student is also placed in a small group "Pullout Lesson" where students are grouped by instrument and meet once per 6-day cycle. Finally, each band student participates in many performances throughout the year. Performance is an opportunity to showcase their learning and share their talent with the community.
The Norwalk Public Schools recognize the importance of instrumental music to their students and the surrounding community. It is with this understanding that the N.P.S. created the pullout lesson program. Students will be placed in small group lessons based on instrument, grade, and playing ability. These groups are pulled out of class (on a rotating basis) once every six days for a small group lesson. A student should never miss the same class more than once a month. This rotating schedule allows students to receive more individualized attention while never sacrificing the education they receive in their core classes.
Students work very hard to prepare for each performance. A Concert is an opportunity to showcase the effort and talents of our young performers. Participation in a performing ensemble necessitates attendance at ALL PERFORMANCES. Absences and tardiness must be avoided in order to present our work as a whole.
